The anime starts explaining the history and the political situation of the country up to the present day. Afterwards we are introduced to the main character of the story, Erin and her mother who is the village Touda´s vet. The village in which they reside is a simple medieval like village with a very big cave where the Touda live and are taken care of. Toudas are big strong animals with dragon like features that are used in war. In the first episode a baby Touda has disappeared causing much distress in the village where Erin lives. Erin and her friends take it upon themselves to find the baby Touda and during the search we find out Erin´s intelligent and mischievous nature. Thanks to Erin´s intelligence she finds the Touda, however she fails to notice the adult Touda that has sneaked behind her. When it seems the Touda is about to kill her, her mother appears blowing a whistle which petrifies the Touda and thus effectively saving Erin. A the end of the episode Erin tells her mother that she wants to become a “doctor” like her mother and her mother gives her a warning about Todas saying that they are “wild beasts” something that Erin fails to understand at the time.
Impressions:
The first episode is fairly interesting but it seems to be aimed at a rather young audience, however this might change as the anime progresses. The drawing is nice if not too simple (and thus the younger audience) and gives the anime an air of naivety which can be justified as the main character is young girl. The dialogue is quite good and the story has an engaging plotline if not a bit too slow. All in all, it promises to be a relatively good anime.
Have a good week!
